First + foremost a warrior - courage is his defining quality - initially portrayed as brave - ironic D speaks highly of him

D trusts Lady M as the gracious wife of one of his lords. Repetition of hostess emphasizes how inhospitable her actions will be. She breaks his trust as D is unaware of what she is going to do

M complements her saying it compliments her like she is a man (men are traditionally seen as powerful)
There is nothing soft or feminine about her. It is not like a stereo typical Jacobean women - weak. Lady M is strong and powerful.

Maybe not primarily the avatar of evil but the incarnation of gender troubles - whose efforts to implement hr dreams question the sexual hierarchy to which she was born
3)Supernatural = extended metaphor for the character's mental disturbances / disorientation :
- W = personified as the evil part of our subconscious
- LM sleepwalking + M's vision of the dagger "is that a dagger i see before me, the handle towards my hand" - disturbance of mind or ghostly apparition drawing him to action
- B's ghost - real or manifestation of M's inner guilt/paranoia?

-Can't take back his actions- drowned in guilt
