Consistency in narrative voice -
making sure that the tone and voice sounds the same through consistent word choices (e.g. a child narrator would use different words to an adult.)
bringing something important to the reader's attention through emphasis/repetition etc. (e.g. in a mystery, the writer may wish to foreground a certain object which the reader can infer is the murder weapon...)
