mitosis stages and descriptions
Terms in this set (7)
cell grows and makes copy of its DNA, cell separates DNA into 2 sets and divides the cytoplasm, forming 2 new cells
chromosomes recruit condensin, spindle fibres begin to form as 2 pairs of centrioles move from opposite ends and microtubules begin to polymerise from duplicated chromosomes. Sister chromatids joined at centromere.
Chromosomes become visable, nuclear envelop dissolved into small vesicles that will be divided between future daughter cells. Chromosomes pulled to opposite directions by microtubules
Chromosomes line up at equator of cell (spindle). Checkpoint mechanism determines wether spindle is properly assembled.
Separation of sister chromosomes. Microtubles shorten, chromosomes move towards spindle poles. Then, spindle poles separate as microtubules move past each other.
Chromosomes reach poles, nuclear membrane reforms, chromosomes begin to decondense into interphase conformations. Duplicated genetic material carried in the nucleus is seperated. Nuclear membrane forms around each set of chromosomes to separate the DNA from the cytoplasm.
Parent cell is split into 2 identical daughter cells.
