Studying with Spell mode

Spell lets you type what you hear to practice your spelling. This mode works well for studying a new language, or practicing your spelling and pronunciation in your own language. With audio in 18 languages, you can use Spell with a wide variety of sets!

Spell is available on the Quizlet website, but not on the Quizlet iOS or Android apps. To study with spell from a mobile device, we recommend using the website on your phone or tablet's browser.

The basics

Spell will read a term or definition to you, and you'll type in the correct spelling to progress. If you need to hear a term read again, click on the speaker icon (or press the Escape key).

When you spell a word correctly, you advance to the next word. If you misspell a word, Spell will highlight the letters you missed in green and spell the word for you. Then, you can try again.

Words being read back too fast? Click on the Options button and select Slow instead of Normal. That should make it easier to hear the word and get your answers right!

Spell presents terms in rounds of seven. After each round, you'll see a progress checkpoint with an overview of your right and wrong answers to see how you're doing. To master a word, you need to spell it correctly twice.

Finishing Spell and viewing your results

Spell ends once you've mastered all of the words in your set by spelling them correctly twice. When you're done, you'll see information on which terms you missed and how many times you missed them. Scroll down to see your results  and learn what to focus on in future study sessions.
