3 - Carbohydrates
This set will teach you about the carbohydrates which are covered on the MLT/MLS ASCP registry exam. We will go over basic carbohydrate physiology, carbohydrate pathology, and carbohydrate testing.
Terms in this set (46)
What does glycolysis (TCA or Krebs cycle) accomplish?
transforms glucose into 2 molecules of Acetyl Co-A
What does the electron transport chain (ETC) accomplish?
converts 1 molecule of Acetyl Co-A into 16 ATP
What does gluconeogenesis accomplish?
creates new molecules of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources like fats and amino acids. The byproduct of fatty degradation is ketone production
What does glycogenesis accomplish?
The creation of glycogen from molecules of glucose
What does glycogenolysis accomplish?
The harvesting of glucose molecules from glycogen
