LITERATURE
How might the events the poem describes contribute to the idea that there are "no more young men" in the world? Explain.
WORLD HISTORY
Before World War I, the Young Turks were organizing for reforms in the Ottoman Empire. What four steps led to their organization and the achievement of independence after the war?
STATISTICS
The U.S. Census Bureau provides data on the number of young adults, ages 18–24, who are living in their parents’ home. Let $M =$ the event a male young adult is living in his parents' home $F =$ the event a female young adult is living in her parents' home If we randomly select a male young adult and a female young adult, the Census Bureau data enable us to conclude $P ( M ) = .56$ and $P ( F ) = .42$ (The World Almanac, $2006 ) .$ The probability that both are living in their parents' home is .24 . a. What is the probability at least one of the two young adults selected is living in his or her parents’ home? b. What is the probability both young adults selected are living on their own (neither is living in their parents’ home)?
STATISTICS
Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become brittle due to loss of minerals. To diagnose osteoporosis, an elaborate apparatus measures bone mineral density (BMD) in standardized form. The standardization is based on a population of healthy young adults. The World Health Organization (WHO) criterion for osteoporosis is a BMD score that is 2.5 standard deviations below the mean for young adults. BMD measurements in a population of people similar in age and gender roughly follow a normal distribution. Women aged 70 to 79 are, of course, not young adults. The mean BMD in this age group is about-2 on the standard scale for young adults. Suppose that the standard deviation is the same as for young adults. What percent of this older population has osteoporosis?

ADVANCED MATH
Determine which of the following passages are arguments. For those that are, identify the conclusion. For those that are not, determine the kind of nonargument. Young people at universities study to achieve knowledge and not to learn a trade. We must all learn how to support ourselves, but we must also learn how to live. We need a lot of engineers in the modern world, but we do not want a world of modern engineers.

PREALGEBRA
The ratio of young people to adults at a contest was 7 to 5. If the total number of young people and adults was 1260, how many more young people were there than adults?
QUESTION
The heights of young men follow a Normal distribution with mean 69.3 inches and standard deviation 2.8 inches. The heights of young women follow a Normal distribution with mean 64.5 inches and standard deviation 2.5 inches. Find the probability that a randomly selected young man is at least 2 inches taller than a randomly selected young woman. Show your work.
HEALTH
Develop a puppet play for young children about the benefits of eating vegetables. Perform it for young children.
BIOLOGY
Ground-nesting birds often produce precocial young. How might this improve the odds of survival for the young?
PSYCHOLOGY

On the issue of campus parking, 35% of the Young Democrats and 60% of the Young Republicans favor turning a campus green space into a parking lot. A campus newspaper reporter randomly selects a person from the group and finds that the person favors the parking space. Find the probability that the person selected is a Young Democrat.
CALCULUS

Of these policyholders, 3000 are young, 4600 are male, and 7000 are married. The policyholders can also be classified as 1320 young males, 3010 married males, and 1400 young married persons. Finally, 600 of the policyholders are young married males. How many of the company's policyholders are young, female, and single? Choose one of the following. (a) 280 (b) 423 (c) 486 (d) 880 (e) 896

BIOLOGY
Contrast altricial and precocial young.
BIOLOGY
In most bird species, both parents care for the young. The parents come together during mating season to mate and raise their young. In some bird species, one parent builds the nest and then attracts a mate. In other bird species, the parents build the nest together. The parents often take turns guarding the eggs and keeping them warm. When the young hatch, the parents bring food that is similar to what young birds will eat as adults. This parental care continues until the chicks are ready to fly away. After they leave the nest, young birds are on their own and seldom have any more contact with their parents. Young birds usually are cared for by both parents. In mammals, the mother often raises the young by herself. Propose a hypothesis that explains why both bird parents care for the young while only the mammalian mother cares for her young. Discuss how the hypothesis could be tested.
DISCRETE MATH
Suppose that there are five young women and five young men on an island. Each man is willing to marry some of the women on the island and each woman is willing to marry any man who is willing to marry her. Suppose that Sandeep is willing to marry Tina and Vandana; Barry is willing to marry Tina, Xia, and Uma; Teja is willing to marry Tina and Zelda; Anil is willing to marry Vandana and Zelda; and Emilio is willing to marry Tina and Zelda. Use Hall’s theorem to show there is no matching of the young men and young women on the island such that each young man is matched with a young woman he is willing to marry.
ECONOMICS
In many developing nations, young women have lower enrollment rates in secondary school than do young men. Describe several ways in which greater educational opportunities for young women could lead to faster economic growth in these countries.
